Pesticides in Private Wells

Pesticides are chemicals used to control “pests,” such as weeds and insects.

Normal field applications and home use, spills, misuse, or improper storage and disposal can all lead to pesticide contamination in groundwater. Several pesticides have been found in groundwater in Wisconsin.

Long-term use of drinking water that contains pesticides may increase the risk of developing cancer or other serious health problems.
