EMS: Physician Advisory Committee

The Emergency Medical Services Physician Advisory Committee (EMS-PAC) makes suggestions to Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS). These suggestions relate to EMS (Emergency Medical Services) medical issues. The EMS Advisory Board appoints members to EMS-PAC. However, the EMS-PAC doesn’t report directly to the board.

What EMS-PAC does

Based on Wisconsin law, EMS-PAC must:

• Advise DHS on selection criteria for the State EMS Medical Director and how they perform.
• Advise the state medical director on appropriate medical issues.

Based on assignments from the EMS Advisory Board, EMS-PAC must:

• Help develop the requirements for medical directors at the local level.
• Serve as an advisory committee for all related agencies, such as Wisconsin Technical College System Board and the Department of Transportation.
• Help write medical protocols to use in Wisconsin.
• Suggest Scope of Practice for each emergency medical technician level.
• Complete other duties that the board assigns.
