TIAC: Summary of Determinations Regarding Level of Evidence

The table below summarizes the Treatment Intervention Advisory Committee’s determinations about each reviewed treatment modality and whether each can be considered a proven and effective treatment. Determinations are made based on established levels of efficacy, ranging from Level 1 (Well Established or Strong Evidence) to Level 5 (Untested/Experimental Treatment and/or Potentially Harmful). Research requirements for each level are summarized in the Treatment Review Decision Table. Note that regularly scheduled reviews will be discontinued for modalities with potential for harm or that have yielded no new published research for 2 review cycles.  These modalities may be considered for re-review again at the request of the Department or if a Request for Review packet is submitted with updated published references.
