Million Hearts®

Million Hearts® is a national program to prevent heart attacks and strokes. The goal is to prevent one million heart attacks and strokes within five years. The priorities include:

  • Building health communities.
  • Optimizing care.
  • Focusing on health equity.

Hypertension control champions

Since its launch in 2011, Million Hearts® has recognized four Wisconsin Hypertension Control Champions for their success. These groups achieved greater than 70% control among their patients with high blood pressure:

  • Marshfield Clinic Health System, Marshfield (2019)
  • Plymouth Family Physicians, Plymouth (2017)
  • River Falls Medical Clinic, River Falls and ThedaCare, Appleton (2013)
  • Ellsworth Medical Clinic, Ellsworth (2012)

Blood Pressure Improvement CHALLENGE

In 2015, the Wisconsin Heart Disease and Stroke Alliance (now the Wisconsin Heart Health Alliance) created the Wisconsin Blood Pressure Improvement CHALLENGE.

It was a year-long campaign to promote blood pressure control and management in Wisconsin.

The CHALLENGE was part of the national Million Hearts® initiative. Participants included clinics, pharmacies, health departments, churches, colleges, businesses, health insurers, and statewide organizations.
