SRSTC: Victim Notification

The information below is for victims of patients in the care of Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center. 

Patients committed under Wis. Stat. ch. 980 

Patients committed to the care of Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center under Wis. Stat. ch. 980 are known as sexually violent persons. 

State law requires notification of the victim(s) of sexually violent persons prior to the person's release from Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center.

The Department of Corrections manages victim notification for sexually violent persons. 

If you are a victim but have not yet enrolled for notifications or have questions or concerns about victim notification for sexually violent persons, contact the Office of Victim Services and Programs at the Department of Corrections.

Enrollment in victim notification services is optional. 

The sexually violent person will not be given your contact information.

If you have enrolled for victim notification but no longer wish to be contacted or your contact information has changed, contact the Office of Victim Services and Programs at the Department of Corrections

Patients committed under Wis. Stat. § 971.17

Patients committed to the care of Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center under Wis. Stat. § 971.17 are known as people found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. 

The Department of Health Services manages victim notification for people found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. 

Notifications are sent to enrolled victims when:

  • A court grants conditional release to the community. 
  • A court grants discharge from conditional release. 
  • A court grants discharge from the facility to the community. 
  • A not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect commitment expires.

Enrolled victims are notified when the committed individual dies if the person is in the care of the Department of Health Services at the time of death. 

Enrollment in victim notification services is optional. The person found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect will not be given your contact information.

Complete this form—Victim Notification Request, F-03273—to request enrollment in the victim notification system.

Contact the Bureau of Community of Forensic Services if you have enrolled for victim notification but no longer wish to be contacted or your contact information has changed.
