What is a personal care agency?

A personal care agency is either:

  • A home health agency.
  • A county department.
  • An independent living center.
  • An American Indian tribe or band.
  • A freestanding personal care agency.

They provide services that must:

  • Be medical in nature. Includes activities that help a person with daily living needs. The goal is to help keep the person living in their community.
  • Come from a doctor's or certified personal care provider's written orders.
  • Be provided by a personal care worker who works for the provider. All workers are supervised by a registered nurse based on a written plan of care.
