Tuberculosis WEDSS
The Wisconsin Electronic Disease Surveillance System (WEDSS) is a secure, web-based system designed to facilitate reporting, investigation, and surveillance of tuberculosis (TB), latent TB infection (LTBI), and other communicable diseases in Wisconsin.
It enables timely communication between entities involved in TB management and reporting.
It is designed for:
- Public health staff
- Infection control practitioners
- Clinical laboratories
- Other disease reporters
Users must have an account through the Wisconsin Logon Management System (WILMS), sign a WEDSS User Security and Confidentiality Agreement form, and complete training. Agency representatives can contact dhswedss@dhs.wisconsin.gov for instructions. The level of access to WEDSS will vary depending on the user’s role.
Many activities can be performed through WEDSS, including:
- Review client demographic information
- Report new cases of TB or LTBI
- Review lab results
- Record directly observed therapy visits
- Record contact investigations
New confirmed and suspected cases of active TB disease still require a phone call to the patient's local health department within 24 hours, even if the information is entered into WEDSS.
For more information on WEDSS, please see resources below or visit the DHS WEDSS webpage.
