Governor’s Task Force on Healthcare Workforce

Group of people surrounding the governor who is holding up the signed executive order for creating the task force

Overview

Health care is a high-need area of our state's workforce the State of Wisconsin is working to strengthen and support. To recognize the importance of the challenges facing our state's workforce Governor Evers declared 2024 the Year of the Worker to build on efforts to bolster the state’s workforce in high-demand, high-need industries. The declaration supports a focus on new efforts to build a workforce prepared to meet the needs of a 21st-century economy, including finding sustainable solutions to retain, attract, and train talented workers to address our state’s workforce shortages.

On January 29, 2024, Governor Tony Evers signed Executive Order #220 to create the Governor’s Task Force on the Healthcare Workforce.

The task force is charged with:

  • Studying the workforce challenges facing the state’s health care system, including recruitment and retention
  • Identifying ways to improve patient care and alleviate the burdens on the health care workforce
  • Exploring educational and training pathways to grow a sustainable health care workforce
  • Creating an action plan with solutions related to workforce development, industry innovation, education, and training for consideration in the governor’s 2025-27 state budget
