Fighting Fraud with Data Analytics

Wheel gears with Data Analysis imprinted
Created in 2017, the Data Analytics Section (DAS) uses facts, statistics, and information systems to identify fraud, waste, and abuse in Wisconsin's public assistance programs.

Staffers sort through data to find trends and help others in OIG select leads to pursue and make decisions about the audits they conduct. DAS uses technology to improve efficiencies and develop best practices. The team examines historical data, as well as focuses on future behaviors, to provide high-quality support to OIG.

The section also tracks a number of statistics every month that highlight OIG’s fraud-fighting efforts. These outcome measures include projected cost avoidance, overpayments established, and fraud hotline complaints.
