Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C)

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a rare, but serious condition associated with COVID-19. MIS-C causes parts of the body to become inflamed. This could include inflammation of the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal organs or clotting disorders of the blood. Most cases of MIS-C are in children between the ages of three and 12 years old who had or were exposed to COVID-19.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) continues to monitor the situation as we look for this uncommon, yet serious condition in children. As of November 2021, DHS is prioritizing the investigation of suspected MIS-C cases. DHS encourages health care providers to promptly report any cases of MIS-C.
