History of legal help for older adults in Wisconsin
The Older Americans Act is a law that says older adults must have access to:
- Legal advice and representation.
- Legal information and education.
- Referrals in civil legal matters. In Wisconsin, the Elder Benefit Specialist Program offers these services.
Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) also has looked at the legal needs of Wisconsin’s older adults. We’ve studied how our state can improve how we’re able to meet those needs. We did this research through the Model Approaches to Statewide Legal Assistance Phase One grant. It ran from August 1, 2016, to July 31, 2019. We plan to publish a report with results soon.
