Limitations/Comments:
Reviews from the Task Force on Community Preventive Services are
recognized as thorough and systematic. The scope of this particular review
coincides almost perfectly with the objective from the state health plan.
For this reason, the recommendations from the Guide to Community
Preventive Services are used here. However, there are some important
limitations to consider. This review was conducted in 2002, published in
2003, and only reviewed literature up to 2001. In a field as new as
cultural competence, there has certainly been research published since
2001 that could change the results. At the time of this review there were
only six research studies available for analysis. An updated search of
PubMed or Medline would be a useful process for anyone about to undertake
a project involving cultural competency.
