F441 - Updated Guidance to Surveyors

The webcast presentation, F441 - Updated Guidance to Surveyors for Infection Control, that was to be available to providers and surveyors has been postponed.

CMS notified the Division of Quality Assurance, Bureau of Technology, Licensing and Education Services Section that the CMS Survey and Certification Group will provide a mandatory "Train-the Trainer" training session --- Infection Prevention and Control in Nursing Homes for Long-Term Care Trainers --- in each state to be held October 26 to October 29, 2009. This training program will provide a detailed review of the revised interpretive guidance for F334 - Immunizations, F373 - Sanitary Conditions, and F441 - Infection Control in nursing homes.

It is CMS's expectation that, after attending the October training, the long term care trainers will be responsible for training the nursing home surveyors in their respective States.

The Division of Quality Assurance, Bureau of Technology, Licensing and Education Services Section will send out an announcement alerting providers and surveyors of the rescheduled date of this webcast presentation.

In the interim, providers may access the advance copy of the revised guidance for F441- Infection Control at: http://www.cms.hhs.gov/SurveyCertificationGenInfo/downloads/SCLetter09_54.pdf
