GRANTS WILL INCREASE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR
PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
MADISON—The Wisconsin Department of Health Services announces it is
awarding ten grants in the amount of $30,000 each to increase the ability
of community agencies in helping people with disabilities join the
workforce.
“People with disabilities want to work and can work. Expanding job
opportunities enables people with disabilities to participate in and
contribute to their communities,” said Secretary Karen Timberlake. “As
a result of these awards, agencies will be able to provide more
innovative, individualized, community-based services and supports to
people who may otherwise not be working at all.”
People with disabilities are a minority among workers in the state and
the grants are a step toward increasing their integration in the
workforce. The ability to better serve and support people with
disabilities, along with advancements in technology, make it possible for
people with disabilities to work in the community.
The Department of Health Services will administer the grant money,
which is being provided by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
Services. Agencies will also receive assistance from state and national
experts in integrating people with disabilities into community workplace
settings.
