Professional Visits

Patients have a right to reasonable visitation access to their attorneys and clergy.  Attorney visits are to be scheduled with the unit social worker to ensure proper staff coverage and room availability.  Visits from clergy will be coordinated through the WRC Chaplain for staff coverage and room availability.

All business-related visits are to be scheduled (with reasonable notice given) between 7:45 A.M. and 4:30 P.M. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.  The unit social worker shall complete a gatehouse memo.  The memo should clearly state the nature of the visit, date, time and names of all visitors.

Termination of visiting privileges

A visit may be terminated, and the Security Director may suspend visits, for violations of WRC policy and procedures. The visitor and the patient shall be informed of the reasons for suspending the visit in writing. Patients will receive a CRLDD form when a visit is terminated. WRC will enforce all suspensions given while a patient is housed at another facility.

Staff may terminate a visit due to any of the following:

  • Inadequate supervision by accompanying adult
  • Inappropriate behavior on the part of the patient (i.e., behavior which threatens the safety or security of the institution or others)
  • Inappropriate behavior on the part of the visitor (i.e., behavior which threatens the safety or security of the institution or others)

If the Security Director feels the incident warrants a suspension, he or she will, in coordination with the unit treatment team and Client Rights Specialist, determine the length of time for the suspension and the time limits for review of the suspension.

Severe breaches of security, with the approval of the Director, may result in specific visitors being banned from the facility. When visitor(s) have been banned from the facility, a re-application for visiting may be submitted to the Director no less than one year after the termination occurs and every 90 days thereafter.
