Visit Overview
All
patient visitors at WRC must be requested through the patient's
social worker by the patient. Visitors will be required to
complete a Visitor Screening-Patient form. The requesting visitor
should submit the completed form for processing to:

Visitor
Rules
The
following is a list of rules for visitors to WRC. Violation of these
rules may result in the termination, denial of the visit, or suspension of
visitation privileges for the visitor.
Visitors
will be required to provide proper identification. Proper
identification includes one of the following:

State
Drivers License

Valid
Military ID

Department
of Transportation Identification card

Welfare Department Identification card

Picture ID

Passport

Social
Security card or Birth Certificate (for children under 18)
Visitors
who appear under the influence of alcohol or drugs, display disorderly or
inappropriate behavior, or refuse to follow staff directives, may be
denied visitation.
All
visitors will be screened with a metal detector prior to their entrance.
Visitors
are required to deposit all purses, handbags, or other carrying items, in
the Gatehouse lockers prior to visiting.
All
property intended for delivery to patients will be handled in accordance
with the institution mail and property procedures.
Visitors
wishing to deposit money in a patient account must deposit prior to the
visit. Deposits will not be accepted after the visit is concluded.
Visitors
will be permitted to embrace the patient once at the beginning of the
visit and again at the conclusion of the visit. "Embrace"
means a brief kiss and hug.
Minors
(any person under the age of 18 years) must obtain special permission from
the treatment team to be allowed to visit with a patient. This must
be obtained prior to the visit.

Dress
Code for Visitors
The
following apparel is considered inappropriate and will result in the
denial of visits:

Transparent
clothing
-
Swimming
suits
-
Shorts shorter than fingertip length (i.e., visitor standing
naturally with arms straight down the side of the body and fingers
extended)
-
Skirts
or dresses shorter than fingertip length plus three inches
-
Strapless,
tube or halter tops, and strapless dresses
-
Tops
which expose the midriff (front and back)
-
Low-cut
blouses,
shirts, and dresses; skirts with revealing slits
-
Spandex
or Spandex-like and Lycra or Lycra-like athletic pants,
aerobic/exercise tights or leotards
-
Underwear
worn as outer garments or over the top of other clothing
-
Clothing
with revealing holes or tears
-
Clothing
with accessories with obscene or profane writing, images or pictures
-
Sunglasses
Visitors
wearing gang or club related clothing or insignia may be denied entrance
into the institution, (i.e., motorcycle jackets bearing club logos).
These
restrictions apply equally to men and women.

Professional
Visits
Patients
have a right to reasonable visitation access to their attorneys and
clergy. Attorney visits are to be scheduled with the unit social
worker to ensure proper staff coverage and room availability. Visits
from clergy will be coordinated through the WRC Chaplain for staff
coverage and room availability.
All
business-related visits are to be scheduled (with reasonable notice given)
between 7:45 A.M. and 4:30 P.M. Monday through Friday, excluding
holidays. The unit social worker shall complete a gatehouse
memo. The memo should clearly state the nature of the visit, date,
time and names of all visitors.
Notification memorandums for
professional visits scheduled during non-business hours require the signature
of the WRC Director/designee. Exceptions to this procedure must be
authorized by the Director, Deputy Director, Security Director or the
Security Supervisor on duty.

Denial
or Termination of a visit
A visit
may be denied or terminated and visiting privileges may be suspended under
the following circumstances:
- visitation by a specific visitor is deemed counter-therapeutic by
the treatment team
- visitor refuses to submit to search procedures
- visitor brings any alcoholic
beverages, any narcotics or other drugs, or any article or instrument
which threatens the safety and security of the inmates, patients,
staff, institution, or public, onto WRC grounds
- visitor appears to be under the influence of drugs, alcohol or any
other intoxicant
- visitor refuses or fails to produce sufficient identification or
falsifies information
- visitor or patient violates institution rules
- visitor fails to prevent their children from disturbing other people
in
the visiting area
- inappropriate display of affection, suggestive activity, or
inappropriate dress
- other conduct or conditions deemed by the Security Supervisor to be
disruptive to visiting operations or the security of the institution
- visitor refuses to complete a Request to Visit Inmate/Patient form
accurately and completely
- visitor fails to successfully pass the WRC Entrance procedures
- due to patient’s clinical status
- visitor is on State or county supervision
Termination of visiting privileges
A visit may be terminated, and the Security Director may
suspend visits, for violations of WRC policy and procedures. The visitor
and the patient shall be informed of the reasons for suspending the visit
in writing. Patients will receive a CRLDD form when a visit is terminated.
WRC will enforce all suspensions given while a patient is housed at
another facility.
Staff may terminate a visit due to any of the
following:
- Inadequate supervision by accompanying adult
- Inappropriate behavior on the part of the patient (i.e., behavior
which threatens the safety or security of the institution or others)
- Inappropriate behavior on the part of the visitor (i.e., behavior
which threatens the safety or security of the institution or others)
If the Security Director feels the incident warrants a suspension, he or
she will, in coordination with the unit treatment team and Client Rights
Specialist, determine the length of time for the suspension and the time
limits for review of the suspension.
Severe breaches of security, with the
approval of the Director, may result in specific visitors being banned
from the facility. When visitor(s) have been banned from the facility, a re-application for visiting
may be submitted to the Director no less than
one year after the termination occurs and every 90 days thereafter.
