November is American Diabetes Awareness Month

Diabetes is a costly and devastating illness. Some 329,000 individuals in Wisconsin have the disease, but about one-third do not realize it. Diabetes can cause disabling complications, including heart disease, kidney disease, and blindness. Studies show that specific lifestyle changes can delay the onset and in some cases prevent the occurrence of Type 2 diabetes.

Linking Mental and Physical Health: Results from the Wisconsin Behavioral Risk Factor Survey

Using data from the Wisconsin Behavioral Risk Factor Survey (BRFS), the Department compiled a report examining links between mental health conditions and chronic disease risks, functioning and quality of life among Wisconsin adults. It shows the individual-level burden and diminished quality of life experienced by Wisconsin adults who have serious psychological distress or depression.
