Wisconsin Health Facts: Poverty and Health, 2006

The Minority Health Program promotes awareness of minority health by disseminating information through multiple communication  channels including presentations, data reports, and a statewide public information campaign. The program reviews minority health research, surveys best practices, and recommends policies and strategies to be adopted by public health agencies. The program also promotes collaboration among public and private sector partners to address comprehensive minority health issues.

Elimination of health disparities is the driving force behind the Minority Health Program. It is also an overarching goal of Healthiest Wisconsin 2010 (the State Health Plan) and is the standard set by most federal health programs in accordance with the 1998 President's Initiative to Eliminate Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health. The Minority Health Program ensures that this goal is reinforced and instituted in departmental health policies and related statewide programs.
