Sexual
Violence Prevention Program
What is the Department of Health Services doing?
- In partnership with Wisconsin
Coalition Against Sexual Assault, Inc. (WCASA) (exit
DHS), the program distributes
federal funds, and monitors and evaluates statewide sexual assault
prevention activities.
- Sexual assault victims services programs statewide are supported
through these funds, through training of professionals, operation of hotlines,
counseling, and referral.
- Collaborates with partners statewide to increase public awareness and knowledge of sexual violence and its
consequences to support local communities in the creation of social
change through education and awareness activities.
- Developed a statewide multi-faceted public awareness campaign called
"Real Men Respect" (Wisconsin Sexual
Assault Awareness Campaign)
- Assures outreach to communities (rural, racial/ethnic minority,
sexual preference, gender, age) that may be at higher risk for
sexual violence or who may not have access to information or services
related to sexual violence.
- In collaboration with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention
and statewide partners, initiated a planning process to prevent the
first time victimization and perpetration of sexual violence.
