Tabs
The webpage provides tabs or square buttons at the top of the page to
allow you to look at different pages within the box. The tabs
shown initially are About, Map, Topic Links, and County Profiles.
Once you run the query, the Table link will also appear. Below are
screen shots of each tab.

How to Create a Query
Creating a query is easy but to get the data you want requires understanding how
the query works.
With the exception of the Topic drop down, all subsequent drop downs are dependent
on the drop down above it. This design ensures your selection has data available
(with a couple minor exceptions).
The "Query Panel" is located on the left side of the page and will initially look
like this:
Below is a series of screen shots (using Reproductive Outcomes as an example) to
walk you through the steps to select a query:
1. Select a Topic:
2. The Measure drop down will appear. Select a Measure:
3. The Geography drop down will appear. Select a Geography:
Note: Selecting
"State" as the geography type will provide state level data and show a State map
in blue. Selecting "County" as the geography will result in a shaded State map and
county level data. To learn more about creating shaded State maps go to the"How
to create a shaded State map query" help topic.
4. A series of drop downs will appear. Select a value for each drop down and click on the Submit button:
Note:
After you click the Submit button, please be patient. The application is retrieving the requested
data. Most notably, retrieving the data you requested, populating adata table, and
if valid, rendering a map and a legend.
You completed your first query when a data table and map are returned.
Keep making new selections to see all the the data you can access. If you have any
issues not covered in the FAQs and Help, then please
be sure tocontactus!

How to create a shaded state map query
Creating a shaded map query is similar to creating a query, with a few exceptions.
Below is a series of screen shots (using Reproductive Outcomes as an example) to
walk you through the steps to create a shaded state map.
1. Select a Topic:
2. The Measure drop down will appear. Select a Measure:
3. The Geography drop down will appear. Select County:
4. The rest of the drop downs will appear, as shown below:
Note:
In the County drop down leave "All" selected. In the other drop downs select a single
value. In the image above, the "Birth Year" drop down is the only dimension
available for this combination of Topic, Measure, and Geography. When all the drop
downs are put together you get a Query Panel that looks similar to this:
5. Below is the shaded state map query. Use this example
to create other shaded maps. If you have any issues not covered in the FAQs and
Help, then please be sure tocontactus!

General Help: Map
Initially, the home page will display the state map shown below. On the home page,
all counties are shaded the same color because there is no data tied to the map.
To create a shaded map, you can run a query. If you would like a summary of the
environmental health data for a county, you could clikck on a county on the map
to get a county profile pdf file, which will open in a new window.

If you run a query about state data, then the map will not change. If you run a
query about county data, which is available in the "Geography" drop down box, then
you will receive a map similar to the one below:
The shaded map can only be generated on a County based query (toggled in Geography
drop down), although, you must select more than just the County in the "Geography"
drop down box. You must continue to select from each of the drop down boxes and not select
"All". The exception is the County drop down in which you do select
"All". For more instruction on creating shaded maps go toHow to create a shaded state map query. Below are examples
of what will and will not create a shade map.
This example will produce a shaded map:
This example will not produce a shaded map:
This example will not produce a shaded map but will show a single selected County:
This is what the map will look like when you select a single County:

General Help: Legend
The Legend is a classification description for the shaded map and will only
be visible when a shaded map is created. You will find the Legend located on the left side
of the web page under the "Query Panel" and "View Data Table" link. The Legend,
when visible, will look similar to the legend below:

General Help: Data Table
The Data Table provides your query results. It is located below
the map, therefore,
it may not be apparent on the page after you click the "Submit" button. In order to see the data table you can either scroll down the web page or click the "View
Data Table" link (shown below). The link is located on the left side of the web
page.
The Data Table will look similar to the one below:
The table can be sorted by clicking
on a column header. Click once to sort
in ascending order, click again to sort in descending order. Also, there are page numbers listed
at the cottom of the table to allow you to jump ahead to subsequent pages.
Depending
upon the query you generate, you'll sometimes see this note
* Numbers too small to report. This simply means that the data was suppressed
because the numbers were too small to display and too small to produce a stable
calculation of rates or percentages. Furthermore, small numbers could potentially
identify an individual in a certain area and demographic and that would be a breach
of confidentiality laws. Therefore we display an asterisk in the table and the highlighted
footnote (shown in full table image above).
Although not shown as an example, you may see "NA" as a value in the data table.
The "NA" means there was no data present for the combinations
of Topic, Measure, Geography, and Dimensions you chose.

Data Provider Help
The data provider paragraph is a data description based on the Topic selected. The
paragraph is located underneath the map but above the data table. The headings for
the data provider look like this: (actual paragraph not currently shown)
