EMT LICENSE AND MEDICAL FIRST
RESPONDER CERTIFICATE RENEWALS:
How do I enroll in EMSS so I can update
information and renew licenses/certificates via the internet?
Go to Emergency Medical Services System
(EMSS) for Licensing
and follow the instructions to enroll.
When should I start processing EMT/Medical First Responder renewals?
You can start working on renewals as EMTs and Medical First Responders bring in their
completed individual 2006-2008 License Renewal Applications to
the provider.
- EMSS Users – You can update demographic information in
the EMSS database for your EMTs at any time. You need to have
the completed EMT/Medical First Responder renewal form to answer many of the questions
on EMSS to legally process the license. You should not complete
fields for criminal questions and credentials unless you have
the documents to transfer the information from the form to the
database.
Why isn’t a person on my roster and how can I add them?
Your roster reflects current data in the EMSS system. If the
person is not on the roster, it was because they were not
associated with your service in the database. To add an
EMT/Medical First
Responder:
- Non-EMSS Users – To add an individual to your service
roster who is already licensed as an EMT/Medical First Responder, have the
individual complete a 2006-2008 EMT License/Medical First Responder Certification Renewal
Application. Then add the individual’s information to the
2006-2008 EMS Renewal Roster and submit the application with your
other renewal materials. An individual who does not hold a current
EMT license/Medical First Responder certificate must send a completed
Medical
First Responder Certificate/EMT License application to the Bureau of
Local Health Support and Emergency Medical Services
TRAINING RECORDS:
How is training recorded and can I add training for my EMTs
and/or Medical First Responders?
Training validation is automatically done by the EMSS database,
so training records must be in the database for a license to be
issued. Training records are entered by your local approved
training center (technical colleges and hospitals) for all
approved EMT and Medical First Responder initial and refresher courses. Service providers,
acting as a proxy for the Medical Director, are allowed to enter
MD approved refresher training at the EMT-Intermediate Technician,
EMT-Intermediate and EMT-Paramedic level.
- EMSS Users – You can add MD approved training
at the license levels indicated above if the EMT is a
Intermediate Technician, Intermediate or Paramedic and your
medical director has personally reviewed and approved the
required continuing education credits. Select the appropriate MD
approved training level, enter the date education was completed
and enter in the comments box the "Name of MD Approving
Training." All other training must be entered by the
training centers. Please contact your local training center if
you believe training records are missing.
- Non-EMSS Users –
Verify and enter the date of MD approved training, if eligible
(12-hours of acceptable Intermediate Technician refresher training; 48-hours of Intermediate or Paramedic
continuing education) on the 2006-2008 EMS RENEWAL ROSTER. Verify
and enter the level of MD approved training on the 2006-2008 EMS
RENEWAL ROSTER. All other training must be entered by the
training centers. Please contact your local training center if you
believe training records are missing.
CORRECTING
MISTAKES:
How do I correct a mistaken answer to the criminal or driver
license questions that I entered into EMSS in my role as Service
Director?
- EMSS Users -You can not change an answer to a
criminal or driver license question once you’ve saved the
record. If you make a mistake in transferring the answers from
an individual renewal form into the database, you must
correct it before you save the record.
Call the EMS Office at (608) 266-0473 and request immediate
assistance (press "0" if you receive voicemail) to
reset these answers. We will reset the answer to "no
answer" and the status to "not initiated" so you
can correctly modify the record to the correct answer.
- Non-EMSS Users - If you make a mistake in transferring the answers
from an individual renewal form onto the roster renewal
form, you must cross out the incorrect answer, place the correct
answer and initial the record.
