EMS: Approved CPR and Automatic External Defibrillator Classes and Providers
Find an approved class and provider for CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), automated external defibrillation (AED), and/or basic life support certifications.
Approved CPR classes
Wisconsin EMS (Emergency Medical Services) has approved certain classes for:
- Emergency medical responders.
- Emergency medical technicians.
- Paramedics.
- Other health care providers working as legal crew members of an ambulance.
Approved classes include:
- American Heart Association—Basic life support for health care providers.
- American Red Cross—Basic life support for health care providers.
- American Safety and Health Institute (includes Medic First Aid)—CPR for the professional rescuer.
- Emergency Care and Safety Institute—American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons CPR for the professional rescuer.
- EMS Safety Services—CPR and AED for professional rescuers.
- Medic First Aid—CPR for the professional rescuer.
- National Safety Council—Basic life support for health care providers and professional rescuers.
- ProTrainings, LLC—ProCPR for health care providers.
Approved CPR class providers
EMS has a list of approved CPR class providers. A licensing board may require a specific CPR course(s) for each license level. Contact the Department of Safety and Professional Services for more information.

- American Safety and Health Institute (includes Medic First Aid)

- Emergency University (CPR pro course)
- EMS Safety Services
- National Safety Council
- ProTrainings, LLC
- T-E-A-M CPR and AED
Any class from the list of EMS-approved providers may fulfill the CPR and AED training objectives. These objectives apply to people who are required to be up to date with CPR and AED for their license or certification. The class must have:
- Instruction of CPR.
- Instruction in the use of AED.
- Verified course completion through a certificate or completion card.
- Certification that doesn’t last more than two years.
