Subject: Questions and Answers about the Role of the Centers for People
with Developmental Disabilities in Serving Children and Adolescents with
Behavior Issues
As you recall, the Division of Disability and Elder Services announced
in the Spring of 2007 the realignment of program mission between the
Mental Health Institutes and the Centers for People with Development
Disabilities. (Please see DDES
Info Memo 2007-01 and DDES
Numbered Memo 2007-06.
Children and adolescents with developmental disabilities who experience
such significant behavioral difficulties in the community that they need
intensive facility-based intervention are now served at the Intensive
Treatment Programs at Central and Northern Centers.
The transition to this mission alignment raised many questions that we
trust we can address with the enclosed question and answer document.
I want to thank the staff in the county agencies, Northern and Central
Centers for People with Developmental Disabilities and Winnebago Mental
Health Institute who assisted in the development of this document.
