Contractor Proficiency List -- Wisconsin
There are no state regulations specifically for radon
mitigation businesses in Wisconsin. The proficiency list below is combined from two
national certifying organizations, whose web sites carry the most
up-to-date information:
To be listed by them, an individual must pass a national
exam, meet continuing education requirements and follow radon mitigation

Radon Mitigation Contractor Proficiency List --
Wisconsin
(February 2010):
The certified individual from this list must show up at
the job site, at least to supervise although they don't have to stay
throughout the work. Ask the person answering a call to one of these
if that will happen, and be sure it does. INSIST THAT YOUR
SYSTEM MEET MITIGATION STANDARDS, to keep the radon as low as possible and
minimize operating expenses.
The fan must be outside the basement and the exhaust stack must go up
to the roof, - at least 10 feet above ground and 2 feet above any windows
less than ten feet away. The exhaust is blowing out 50 cubic feet of air per minute
with a radon concentration of several hundred pCi/L, possibly a
thousand pCi/L. If released at the sill of a house, some of this
radon can enter the house through openings at the sill plate (where the
basement sucks it in), and, at times, windows. Studies have shown
the average indoor radon can be increased by one pCi/L or more by these
effects. In addition, experience by EPA contractors shows that the
joints and couplings to radon fans tend to leak radon on the high pressure
side, significantly
reducing the effectiveness of mitigation systems with fans in
basements.
