The Disability Determination Bureau (DDB) makes the medical decision for Wisconsin residents applying for disability benefits through Social Security and the State of Wisconsin. We operate through the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) Division of Medicaid Services (DMS).
Programs you can join if you meet our definition of disability
You may be eligible for benefits offered through the following programs.
Social Security Disability Insurance
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) pays benefits to a person who meets the definition of a disability and has worked long enough to be covered under Social Security. Benefits are also available to certain family members.
Supplemental Security Income
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays benefits based on the financial need of a person who meets the definition of disabled.
Medicaid
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)-Related Medicaid provides health care benefits to a person who meets the financial and medical requirements for disability. A person who meets the definition of disabled and is eligible for Supplemental Security Income automatically receives Medicaid coverage. A person who is not eligible can apply for Medicaid directly through the State of Wisconsin.
Medicaid Purchase Plan
Medicaid Purchase Plan (MAPP) provides health care coverage to a person with a disability who is working or interested in working. The person may have to pay a monthly premium based on income.
