Description
&
Agenda

Join us for this Wisline featuring Tina Iyama, MD, as she discusses her perspective of autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Iyama is a developmental pediatrician, who has a special interest in early diagnosis of developmental disorders, including autism. She is an
Associate Professor in the University of Wisconsin Department of Pediatrics, and has served children and families in this capacity for over 25 years.

Dr. Iyama will discuss how the diagnosis of autism is made, as well as other disorders on the autism spectrum. She will describe the prevalence of other conditions frequently found in association with autism, including cognitive disabilities and seizure disorders.

The role of genetics in autism will be discussed, along with other current theories about the basis of autism. Therapeutic interventions, including evidence-based and alternative strategies will be covered.

Finally, Dr. Iyama will encourage participants to consider the difference between recovery and cure in children with autism, as well as the long-term outlook for children with these challenges.
