Description
&
Agenda

A video conference on this topic was held on February 13, 2004. All participants, and ALL other Birth to 3 programs and providers who could not attend are welcome to participate in this follow-up telephone conference. Please be sure to let your teammates know about this session - you did not have to attend the video conference to participate in this Wisline!

Evaluations and conversations with participants reflect mixed reactions: frustrations with technology and the lack of time to get to all topics, and yet gratitude that this very important topic has been brought to the forefront.

This Wisline is intended to further address some of the topics and respond to questions that arose at the beginning of the workshop.

Topics:

  • Assessment and Evaluation
  • Gathering Information and Priorities From Families to Enhance Engagement in Birth to 3
  • Documenting and Making Informed Clinical Opinions for Birth to 3 Eligibility
  • Discerning Cultural Differences vs. Disability
  • Facilitating Language Development
  • Finding and Working with Interpreters
    • Exploring who can serve as interpreter
    • Discerning roles of the interpreter
    • Examining barriers to communication
    • Reviewing Code of Ethics
    • Looking at modes of interpreting
    • Determining when to intervene
    • Managing the flow of the session
    • Positioning of people for communication
    • Exploring cultural "bumps"
  • Question and Answer

Please e-mail Lynn Havemann by March 23 with any additional questions and we will do our best to cover as many as possible.
