Description
&
Agenda
|
Part I: It is important to
identify children who are deafblind as soon as possible; child
find is usually complicated by the fact that 90% of children who
are deafblind have a host of other challenging conditions.
Communication, access to the environment, and socialization are
areas that should be embedded into ALL aspects of the life of an
infant or toddler who is deafblind-the earlier, the better.
Attending to these aspects early on adds to the quality of life
for all children who are deafblind.
Part II: More and more
research has established a link between lead poisoning in young
children and subsequent developmental delays, leading to poor
performance in school and other lifelong struggles. Primary
prevention and early intervention can make a difference. Take a
new look at an "old paint" problem and consider ways to
collaborate.
