Agenda

 Currently, Wisconsin has no way of counting children with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.  In addition, according to the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, alcohol drinking and binge drinking in Wisconsin have been the highest among all states for the past decade - suggesting that the incidence of FAS might also be higher in Wisconsin.

Because FAS is not well documented nationwide, the Centers for Disease Control has funded the Wisconsin Fetal Alcohol Screening Project as well as other FAS research endeavors.  Among the goals of the project is to share information with programs where children with FAS receive services and help to educate providers on FAS in order to improve case ascertainment, referral and case management practices and prevention activities.
