Mendota Mental Health Institute, located in Madison, Wisconsin, provides mental health
services to adults, adolescents and children. It provides inpatient services to both
civilly committed and forensic patients who are committed as a result of a criminal
proceeding. It is a licensed and accredited hospital, which complies with the requirements
of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and Federal

Winnebago Mental Health Institute
Winnebago Mental Health Institute, located near Oshkosh, Wisconsin, provides
specialized inpatient psychiatric evaluation and individualized multidisciplinary
treatment for both civilly committed and forensic patients. It serves children,
adolescents, and adults. It is a licensed and accredited hospital, which complies with the
requirements of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)
and Federal Titles18 and 19. In addition, the institute provides consultation and training

Secure Treatment Facilities
Housed within the same facility as Mendota Mental Health Institute, The
Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center is a secure correctional facility designed to serve the
mental health needs of male adolescents transferred from other Department of
Corrections Juvenile institutions. In addition, the institute provides outpatient
services and is a resource for training, clinical education and research to assist in the
diagnosis and treatment of the mentally ill. (Directions

The Wisconsin Resource Center, located near Oshkosh, Wisconsin, is a Department of
Health Services medium security facility, providing individualized care for
inmates transferred from Department of Corrections medium and maximum security
institutions. Its mission is to provide specialized mental health treatment,
rehabilitation, training and supervision to inmates serving criminal sentences. These
individuals have been transferred to the Wisconsin Resource Center because their behavior
poses problems to themselves and others in correctional environments where appropriate

Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center, located in Mauston, Wisconsin, provides court ordered
evaluation, treatment, and supervised release programs for mentally disordered, civilly
committed sexually violent persons, as mandated under Chapter 980 of the Wisconsin
